Today was such a long and tiring day. I had 3 classes with 8 periods. My classes were 7C, 7D, and 7A. The 2 classes, namely 7C and 7D are under Pak Animan's class and 7A is under my cooperating teacher - Ibu Ros' class.

Grade 7D with Pak Animan and Ibu Rosminta
Before anything else, I have to give first my lesson plan to Ibu Ros. (At first, I studied the Indonesian lesson plan but is very lenghty and it is written in bahasa. So, Ibu Ros decided that I can pass a lesson plan I did in the Philippines)
My first class was 7C and my topic was about Profit and Loss. Before entering the class, I should not forget to greet them" Selamat pagi anak-anak. Apa kabar hari ini?" (Good morning class! How are you today?). And before I teach them, of course I should have an interpreter and that is Rafli from 7A class.
Since this is my first time to teach the class, I prepared a PowerPoint Presentation to introduce myself, my country, my language and even the Mayon Volcano. To get their attention, I sang a Nursery Filipino Song "Tong tong tong tong Pakitong kitong" and they will laugh because the tone of song is really funny.
For anticipatory set, I told them a story that I have a 3 friends:
"I have friends. First is Ibu Raisa who is a seller of Bubur Ayam, Second is Pak Agus, a selller of Bakso , and Naufal, a seller of Sate." 3 of them are sellers of a particular product and they have different situations. The student were divided into 3 groups and they will find out if which one in the situations has a profit(keuntungan) or loss (kerugian/rugi).
After that, there was a group contest. The first group to raise his/her hands when I said "GO" and answers the problem correctly will receive a point. So, the class were being participative and active because there will have a prize.
For 7D and 7A, my topic was about Simple Interest, Discount, and Tax. (Actually, the 2 classes are like what we call "honors class" because most of the students in this classes are smart). Using the problems and situations I gave using the PowerPoint, the students were able to discover how to find the Interest, Discount, and Tax. Like for example, I asked my students of what gift they want to get, then they said, they want a toy. Then, I asked them "what if you go to Ayani Mall (famous Mall in Pontianak), then you saw the toy you want and it cost 200 000 rupiah but there is 25% discount, how much is the new price?
The students are participative and active during the discussion. After I discussed my lesson, I always asked them the importance of studying the lesson in real - life situation.
After the discussion, we had the generalization or the summary of the whole discussion and lastly, the evaluation. I often give my students a group quiz or the group contest but according to Ibu Ros I should give them also an individual evaluation. But due to time constraints, sometimes I wasn't give them an individual evaluation.
Time Management and organizing activities:
I have 3 classes for today and 2 of the classes are 3 periods and 1 class is 2 periods. Each period is only 40 minutes. In a 2 periods, I can already discuss 2 topics. For example, in 7C , I can teach Loss and Profit at the same time. However, there are times that I cannot give them individual evaluation because I have an interpreter and it consumes the time. Also, that week is shortened period because the first class is 9:00 in the morning. When it comes to activities, the school is opened to whatever styles or strategies of the teacher.
Problem-solving:
7-A and 7-D are like the "honors-class" so most of the the students there are fast learners. In terms of problem solving, the students were able to solve the problems even though I used the English language and they answered in Bahasa. Therefore, there is no problem in solving the problems in the discussion.
Classroom-management:
Before I teach them, I remind them first about the basic rules like listen when someone is talking, raise your hand if you want to answer, and so on. In my teaching practice, the students are participative and active in the discussion. The students are also behave. However one thing I observe whenever they recite, they do not stand up. So, I told them that when they're reciting, they should stand up.
After the class, one thing i observed to them is on how they respect their teachers. Whenever the teacher enters or leaves the classroom they often put my hand on their forehead or give a little touch with their nose or cheeks.

My only class in Grade 8 is the class of 8-A. My interpreter for the class is Jihan. Our topic for that day was the surface are of a cube, rectangular prism and any other prisms. Using my PowerPoint I was able to discuss on how to get the surface area. I relate it first to their topic when they were in elementary - the area. In area, the figure is plane, while in our new topic it is like a 3D. After the discussion, I asked them already to bring an example of a cube or a prism. Using that, they will measure the surface area using the shortcut or formula I discussed to them.

8-A
After all the discussion, According to Ibu Rosminta, I have a great teaching and learning process and I made the discussion meaningful and contextual. All my hardworks and efforts finally paid off because of the scores I got in the evaluation forms.

The scores in the rubrics is not the only thing that made my efforts paid off but also the students who appreciate me as their teacher through the letters and gifts they gave me.

My face lol

So sweet..
